Kaan Goncu

Bio

Kaan Göncü is a PhD Candidate in Social Work at UBC, specializing in social justice and equity, with a focus on the experiences of transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) people with disabilities. They earned a master’s in social policy and social services from Istanbul University in 2018. At UBC, they worked in research projects on peer support, social work practices, healthcare access for TGD people, and medical assistance in dying in Canada. Before their doctoral studies, Kaan supported queer and disability organizations in Turkey and Sweden. Their current research examines the lived experiences of TGD people with disabilities in accessing gender-affirming care in British Columbia, Canada.
