Bio

Jessica Johnson (she/her) is the Founder and Executive Director of the Rooted Birthwork Collective, a Black-led doula program based in Ottawa, and the Co-Founder of the National Collaboration for Doula Access (NCDA), a national charitable organization dedicated to advancing equity in reproductive health.
Of Jamaican descent and a practicing doula, Jessica’s work centers on improving health outcomes for Black individuals and families through culturally grounded, community-centered care. She is deeply committed to advancing perinatal mental health, expanding access to sexual education for Black communities, and creating systemic change in reproductive health services.
Through her leadership, Jessica has mobilized grassroots efforts into sustainable programs that train, mentor, and support doulas while ensuring Black parents have access to affirming and equitable care. Her work reflects a vision of reproductive justice that celebrates resilience, addresses systemic barriers, and builds stronger networks of care for future generations.
