Biographie
Jada is a social worker, community organizer, and Ph.D. student in counselling psychology at McGill University in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang (Montreal). Jada’s research examines how resistance and refusal contribute to Black LGBTQ+ resilience, foregrounding the intersecting systems of oppression that shape mental health, access to care, and possibilities for healing. As a Garifuna‑Trinidadian queer, non‑binary person, they are committed to depathologizing marginalized people’s experiences and to questioning the individualization and decontextualization of mental health. Guided by their Garifuna Caribbean ancestors, Jada is steered towards centring ancestral and communal healing in therapy and research.
